HAMILTON AND UNIVERSAL MICRO ROTOR

Fully Serviced and Running 1958 Hamilton Masterpiece
Thin-O-Matic Micro Rotor
Automatic w/Gold Filled One Piece Case,
Two Piece Stem with double stitched & padded genuine leather band.

THINOMATIC

“Micro-rotor movements are aesthetically much more pleasing and Buren was the first company to introduce them, they succeeded in making a very thin, very accurate automatic movement by employing revolutionary mechanisms
that functioned reasonably well in a variety of different levels of execution and elaboration. As a classy example of a turning point in the history of both Hamilton and automatic movements in general, a Buren powered Thin-O-Matic makes for an interesting,  horologically significant addition to any watch collection.”

I have read many postings that claim that the watch being offered  is a “rare” and/or “collectable” watch, when in fact it is not.. It is like those who claim:   “needs a battery” or “overwound” … Let me assure you that the watch I am offering is a TRULY RARE AND COLLECTABLE MASTERPIECE . . and that is why it is named the HAMILTON MASTERPIECE Thin-O-Matic!

“The first ever micro-rotor automatic watch movement was patented by Uhrenfabrik Büren A.G. in the mid 50s. When their “planetary rotor” automatic movement was released in 1957 i n the “Super Slender” line, it was one of the flattest automatics of its time and derivatives  of the movement competed with the Universal Geneva micro-rotor for thinnest automatic in the world for many years. The most famous implementation of the Buren micro-rotor  was to be found in Hamilton’s “Thin-O-Matic” line. “

This watch is signed and original:

Dial: white w/gold numerals and markers and is signed with Hamilton Logo, Hamilton, Masterpiece, Thin-O-Matic.Case: Gold Filled one piece. stamped 10k Gold Filled, inside stamped Hamilton Watch, Lancaster Pa, 10K Gold Filled, S976007, (you have to pull the two piece stem out and remove the crystal to remove the movement; the best case on vintage watches) Crystal: Acrylic Movement:    Planetary Jeweled Micro-Rotor  Band: has double stitched and padded leather band.  you may request a spandex style band when you win the auction.

some of the finest and best vintage collectable watches have single piece cases,
you have to pull the two piece stem out and remove the crystal to remove the movement–yup. have one in your collection? How about this one?

These hands restore watches for a living. When they find a watch that they know is a winner, they pull out all stops and spend the energy, time and $$ to make that watch RIGHT! GSW often find great deals right here on ebay. Then THESE HANDS MAKE IT RIGHT FOR YOU! You Get What Is Offered and NOTHING LESS! Why invest in a watch that you may have to have serviced, repaired and/or restored… get the whole deal in ONE INVESTMENT..  Like This Masterpiece ThinOMatic………

YOU SHOULD WIND YOUR POLEROUTER

THEN LET THE MICRO ROTOR TAKE OVER

IN HE 1950’S THE WORLD WAS SEEKING A QUICKER ROUTE TO CALIFORNIA FROM EUROPE. IT AS KNOWN THAT FLYING OVER THE NORTH POLE WOULD SAVE MORE THAN A THOUSAND MILES. SCANDINAVIAN AIRLINES SYSTEMS WOULD OPEN NE ROUTES OVER THE NORTH POLE. THE PILOTS HAD TO ATTEND AN ARTIC FLIGHT SCHOOL TO LEARN HOW TO FLY OVER THE SNOW AND ICE, THE MAGNETIC FIELDS AND TO BE PREPARED FOR EMERGENCIES. THE INITIAL FLIGHTS WERE FRONT PAGE AND LIKE NIVADA CROTON, WITH THEIR ANTARTICA WATCHES, UNIVERSAL GENEVA DECIDED TO CASH IN ON ALL THE PRESS BY MANUFACTURING THE MOST PHENOMINAL WATCHES EVER MADE AT THE TIME; A MICRO-ROTOR AUTOMATIC PRECISION WRIT WATCH THAT WOULD RESIST THE STRONG MAGNETIC FIELD OF THE POLAR REGION. THEY BECAME THE OFFICIAL CHRONOMETERS OF THE SCANDUNAVIAN AIRLINES.AND, SOON WERE A HIT ALL OVER THE WORLD DUE TO THE MICRO-ROTOR- THE WOLDS SMALLEST AUTOMATIC ROTOR,

WE BEGIN WITH A PRETTY MUCH SCARRED POLEROUTER 1-69
LOOKS LIKE SOMEONE HAS BEEN ACTIVE WITH SHARP TWEEZERS
LOTS OF SCRATCHING. THE BABY WINDS BUT WILL NOT RUN.
BALANCE LOOKS GOOD. HAIR SPRING COILED RIGHT BUT BUNCHING UP.

WE WILL NOT REMOVE FROM CASE YET. WE WILL PERFORM
OUR EXAMINATION WITH WATCH MOVEMENT IN CASE
WHEN WE FIGURE THE PROBLEM & INFORM THE PATRON
OF COSTS, WE WILL THEN TOTALLY REMOVE AND TEAR DOWN

SO WE FIRST REMOVE THE BALANCE
NOTE DO NOT PERFORM THESE CHECKS AND REPAIRS UNLESS
YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING. YOU CAN BREAK A STAFF PIVOT OR
SCREW UP THE HAIRSPRING PRETTY FAST

WE HAVE CHECKED THE MICRO-ROTOR. PRETTY SIMPLE TEST AND VIEW
PROVES IT IS WINDING MAINSPRING. THESE ARE NOT COMPLICATED.
THEY HAVE A FEW PARTS THAT CAN BE CHECKED VISUALLY

IMG_6594.JPG (114654 bytes)

ONE SCREW AND A PERFECT GENTLE TWEEZERS GRAB AND SHE LIFTS UP AND OUT

IMG_6593.JPG (109744 bytes)

IN TO THE HAIR SPRING CLEANER GOES THE BALANCE COMPLETE
ONE SHOULD NOT FORGET THAT THE TOP INCABLOC WITH JEWEL
SHOULD BE OILED AFTER SHE DRIES. BETTER NOW THEN AFTER
YOU REPLACE IT AND HAVE TO LIFT THE BRASS SPRING RETAINER AND JEWEL

THESE SMALL GLASS “DISHES” WITH ROUGH OUTER EDGES
HAVE TOPS THAT DO NOT ALLOW THE CLEANER TO EVAPORATE.
THEY COME FROM CHINA AND ARE ON EBAY
LET ME SAY THAT THEY ARE
FANTASTIC

HERE BALANCE COMPLETE WITH BALANCE COCK
IS DRIED AND TOP PIVOT JEWEL OILED

IMG_6591.JPG (195379 bytes)

SHE IS READY TO TEST

NOW, WITH MAIN WOUND UP
WE MANUALLY MOVE THE PALLET FORK
BACK AND FORTH WHILE VIEWING THE WHEELS
AND ESCAPEMENT WHEEL
NO MOVEMENT AT ALL

POLEROUTER-REPAIR-1.jpg (59217 bytes)

WE NOW WILL REMOVE THE PALLET FORK

FIRST WE RELEASE MAINSPRING PRESSURES

IMG_6572.JPG (151986 bytes)

ABOVE YOU WILL SEE THE RELEASE FOR THE
MAIN SPRING AND BY PUSHING THE CATCH SPRING
WILL UNWIND
NEVER EVER REMOVE A BRIDGE WHILE
PRESSURE REMAINS ON MAINSPRING

YOU WILL HEAR IT UNWIND

IMG_6586.JPG (113689 bytes)

WE NOW REMOVE THE TWO SCREWS
FOR THE PALLET FORK BRIDGE
LIFT IT OUT
THEN THE FORK

WE NOW WIND THE MAIN SPRING GENTLY AND SEE IF THE DRIVE
TRAIN WILL SPIN THE HANDS FREELY.
IT DOES NOTHING

WE WILL NOW REMOVE MAIN SPRING

.IMG_6581.JPG (176016 bytes)

THIS UNIVERSAL 1-69 FEATURES A DETACHED MANUAL WIND MECHANISM
SO WE ONCE AGAIN REMOVE PRESSURE FROM MAINSPRING

WE REMOVE CROWN WHEEL SCREW

IMG_6580.JPG (195363 bytes)

NOW LIFT WE OFF THE WHEEL RIDER REVEALING CROWN WHEEL

IMG_6578.JPG (164347 bytes)

REMOVE CROWN WHEEL AND BUSHING

WE NOW MOVE TO REMOVE THE BRIDGE

WE REMOVE 1ST BRIDGE SCREW

WE REMOVE 2ND BRIDGE SCREW

SEE THE INDENTION? THAT IS WHERE YOU PRESS TO REMOVE
PRESSURE BY UNWINDING THE MAINSPRING

IMG_6570.JPG (112116 bytes)

ABOVE IS A PIC OF THE SPRING LEVER THAT HOLDS
THE RATCHET WHEEL WHEN WINDING
AND THE SAME ITEM HAT YOU PUSH

TO RELEASE THE PRESSURE
