DRIVE WAY & WALL

IMG_7441.JPG (50182 bytes)

WE PLANTED 19  TREES 6 YEARS AGO - ALL BUT ONE IN THIS PIC

IMG_7447.JPG (33939 bytes)

2 SQUARE -- 6 [2 X 3] DEEP CUT ROUNDED EDGE SQUARES
-- DRIVEWAY & WINDOWS WERE INSTALLED 6 YEARS AGO

I ADDED ADDITIONAL GUTTERS, LIKE THE ONE ON TOP OF WALL OVER GARAGE
I ALSO ADDED GUTTER GUARDS. TOOK THREE DIFFERENT  KINDS
TO FIND ONES THAT WOULD WORK WITH PINES AND !!Sweet Gum!!!

PAINT WAS NEW, THOUGH WE RESTORED WHAT WAS A TIRED GARAGE DOOR
ITS PANELS NEAR BOWED OUT. IN FACT IT CAME OUT SUPER. AFTER STABILIZING
THE BOWING --NOTE LOWER PANELS-- IT NOW LOOKS CUSTOM!

YEAR THREE WE ADDED TRELLIS. IT TOOK LOTS OF CARE TO  TRAIN
FERTILIZE TRAIN FERTILIZE TRAIN UNTIL IT BECAME AS YOU SEE
THIS SEASON IT NEARLY FILLED TH CENTER

IMG_9824.JPG (28892 bytes)

WITH THE DRIVE WAY WE ASKED HOW MUCH WE WOULD SAVE IF THE COMPANY
DID NOT HAVE TO HAUL OFF THE OLD BROKEN CONCRETE. WE ARE TALKING
60 X 28 FEET WHICH WOULD MEAN ABOUT 5 FOOT HIGH BY 60 FEET. OF MATERIAL
WE SAVED 500.00 AND THEY INSTALLED THE TWO WING PADS. THAT IS THE SQUARE
TO THE RIGHT BETWEEN THE SLAT WALKWAY END AND LARGE BONSAI
THERE IS ANOTHER ON THE OPPOSITE . OUR NEIGHBORS THOUGHT THE NEW
PEOPLE MOVING IN ARE CRAZY. CAUSE THIS HUGE 60 X 5 X 5 FOOT WALL
SAT ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE DRIVEWAY FOR SEVERAL DAYS!

IMG_9826.JPG (28534 bytes)

DENISE AND I USED THE OLD CONCRETE TO BUILD WALLS RUNNING THE FULL LENGTH
FROM THE ROAD TO THE HOUSE . A 4 FOOT HIGH X 3-4 FOOT WIDE  WALL!
AND WE THEN PLANTED AN ASH AND MAPLE BETWEEN WALL ON LEFT AND DRIVE
AND  USED SOME OF THE CONCRETE FOR COOL WALK/PLANT WAY. IN FACT, A VISIT
WILL DISCOVER I USED THAT CONCRETE FOR THE SIDE POND, FIRE PIT AND OTHER
LANDSCAPE JOBS

IMG_7445.JPG (47632 bytes)

THIS IS THE OTHER WING. AND THIS SHOWS THE CONCRETE
FLAT SIDE DOWN. IT HAS LOTS OF COLOR. FROM THE GA RED MUD
TO THE DECADES OF CONTACT WITH THE EARTH UNDER THE DRIVE
IT LOOKS LIKE ANTIQUE QUARRIED STONE

IMG_9917.JPG (28849 bytes)

WE INSTALLED 8 LED NO LIGHT 12 VOLT CAMERAS AND LIGHTING FOR SECURITY WITH MY
OWN INTERNET SYSTEM USING AVAILABLE TOP LINE YET AFFORDABLE EQUIPMENT SOFTWARE AND
OUR OWN DEDICATED SERVER. OUTDOOR LIGHTING TOTALS 48 LIGHTS. OUTSIDE OF THE
110 VOLT CORNER HOUSE LIGHTING, THE MAJORITY ARE LOW VOLTAGE  HALOGENS
AMAZINGLY, WE HAVE TWO SYSTEMS 16 YEARS OLD. WITH BULBS THAT LASTED AN AVERAGE
OF 5 YEARS! TWO PONDS --FRONT/BACK] USE SAME TYPE LIGHTING. I AM
REALLY CONTEMPLATING WIRING THE HOUSE HALLWAYS AND OTHER AREA TO USE 12 VOLT.
THEY ARE EXTREMELY BRIGHT AND SIMPLY LAST A LONG TIME. HAVE YOU PRICED BULBS LATELY???
TICKS ME OFF.  XYLON BULBS ARE AS BRIGHT AS HALOGEN YET LAST 5 TO 6 YEARS.
WE HAVE A SET UNDER OUR KITCHEN CABINET'S. BUT THEY NO LONGER OFFER THEM!
WHY? CAUSE HALOGENS BURN OUT FAST AND COST 6 TO 9 BUCKS EACH!

IMG_0532.JPG (47729 bytes)

SELECT LARGER BONSAI AND PERENNIAL PLANTS ARE OUR FAVORITE.
WE HAVE THOUSANDS OF MONKEY GRASS PLANTS IN FULL SCULPTED BEDS
10 TO 25 FEET BY 200 FEET . THERE ARE TOMATO PLANTS TO THE FAR RIGHT.
EVERY YEAR WE PLANT THEM IN THREE PLANTERS AFTER PERENNIAL FLOWERS BLOOM
NOTE: I WAS IN THE PLANT BUSINESS FOR SEVERAL YEARS. 18 ACRES OF SHADE.
AT ONE POINT I HAD A FEW HUNDRED BONSAI AND A 200 PLANT STAG HORN COLLECTION.
SOME WERE 5 FEET AROUND...

IMG_0527.JPG (50974 bytes)

AWESOME JAPANESE MAPLE 25 YEARS OF AGE
MOST BONSAI ARE NO MORE THAN TWO FEET HIGH.
BUT LARGE BONSAI LIKE SOME OF THOSE BELOW
ARE IN FACT BONSAI. I ALSO CREATED THE PENGING DRAGON IN THE 1990'S
I BEGAN WITH A FISH TANK. THEN I COVERED SIDES AND BACK WITH SILK
FABRIC. ADDED TOPS WITH MAHOGANY GEAR RUNNERS FROM TABLES
THEN ADDED BONSAI'S TO THE TANKS.

TAKE A LOOK AT THIS OLD PAGE FROM 1995

IMG_0528.JPG (58946 bytes)

NOTE THE ABSENCE OF BARK

THAT IS A TOMATO TO RIGHT

IMG_9825.JPG (38064 bytes)

THIS ASH IS 6 YEARS PLANTED & 10 YEARS TOTAL
IT WAS INFECTED BY A FUNGUS THAT IS INCURABLE
YET, THOUGH GROWTH IS STUNTED, I HAVE KEPT IT ALIVE WITH HEALTHY LEAVES
BUT, WHEN YOU SEE THE MAPLE BELOW YOU WILL KNOW STUNTED

BOTH TREES WERE 1 1/2 INCH TRUNK X 5 FOOT SAPLINGS 6 YEARS AGO

IMG_9828.JPG (42173 bytes)

YUP. LOOK AT THE MAPLE.

IMG_9827.JPG (170231 bytes)

IT TOWERS 30 FEET AFTER 6 YEARS

IMG_9830.JPG (33790 bytes)\

I ADDED THIS ROSE GARDEN TO THE LEFT THE END OF MAY 2012
A MONTH LATER IT IS NEAR FULL.
THE LATTICE IS NOW COVERED BY ROSE VINES WITH LEAVES

TOP

WALKWAY FRONT

THIS WAS A PRESENT FOR DENISE'S BIRTHDAY/MOTHER'S DAY 4 YEARS AGO
I COMPLETED THE ENTIRE JOB IN 3 DAYS.. INCLUDING THE KOI POND
WITH 5000 GALLON PER HOUR PUMP SYSTEM INSTALLED I N BASEMENT AND THROUGH
THE STONE WALL.

IMG_7478.JPG (193481 bytes)

RESTORE DOOR PAINT RED
INSTALL MID-EASTERN STYLE METAL ADORNMENTS
THERE IS A STEEL LEAF MOTIF DOOR BELL WITH ROPE HOLDING 6 BRASS BELLS
VINTAGE CHAIRS
TWO SUN MOTIF WALL HANGERS
ONE WITH CANDLE HOLDER
POT WITH FAKE PLANT

IMG_0541.JPG (33952 bytes)

I EXPANDED THE ENTRANCE SQUARE AN ADDITIONAL 5 X 10 FEET

IMG_0542.JPG (29915 bytes)

THE JAPANESE STYLE TRELLIS WAS CONSTRUCTED FROM THE OLD CEDAR RAILINGS

IMG_9918.JPG (34172 bytes)

TO THINK 3 DAYS!
THE WALK WAY WAS 4 FT WIDE. SO OLD FASHION I HAD TO WAIT SEVERAL YEARS
JUST TO COME UP WITH REPLACEMENT

IMG_9909.JPG (31686 bytes)

I PURCHASED 4 4X6X12 FOOT PRESSURE TREATED WITH THE NEW COPPER TREATMENT BEAMS
I THEN CUT TWO INCH CHANNELS EVERY 12 INCHES
I THEN CUT THE ENDS AND ATTACHED TWO SECTIONS PER SIDE
USING THE OLD WALKWAY CEDAR BEAMS
I BUILT A SUPPORT STRUCTURE

I THEN CUT PRESSURE TREATED 2X4X12 INTO 6 FOOT SECTIONS
I THEN PLACED THEM IN THE CHANNELS AND ATTACHED THEM

I THEN DRILLED HALF INCH HOLES IN THE CENTER OF THE 2 X 4 OVER THE BEAMS
I THEN PRE CUT 7  X 1/2 INCH DOWELS AND USED A MALLET TO DRIVE THE DOWELS INTO
THE 2x4 AND THEN INTO THE BEAM LEAVING ABOUT 3/4 INCH EXPOSED
IT LOOKED LIKE A RAILROAD TRACK

IMG_9814.JPG (33220 bytes)

I THEN LAID DOWN 4 FOOT SECTIONS OF MARINE PLYWOOD
I THEN ATTACHED BACKER BOARD
MADE FROM FIBERGLASS AND CEMENT
I THEN INSTALLED SLATE

NOTE THE ENTIRE JOB COST 1300.00 IN MATERIALS
VALUE IS 6000.00

IMG_9905.JPG (37268 bytes)

THE RAILINGS ARE ALSO DOWELS

IMG_9906.JPG (37939 bytes)

IMG_2676.JPG (268167 bytes)

AS YOU CAN SEE, THEY LOOK GREAT AND HAVE WITH STOOD EVERYTHING
THE PLANTS WE HAVE OUT MAINLY ARE BONSAI PLANTS. THIS JADE TREE
WAS PURCHASED IN MIAMI WHEN DENISE AND I WERE DOWN THERE.
IT WAS 8 TO 10  YEARS OLD. THAT WAS 1993. SO FIGURE 30 YEARS

IMG_0508.JPG (42145 bytes)

IMG_2677.JPG (242460 bytes)

IMG_2674.JPG (189973 bytes)

THIS ARBACOLA SHEFELERA IS 35 YEARS OLD. I HAVE PICTURES OF HER
DATING TO 1994. I INVESTED IN THIS BEAUTY FROM RANDY'S NURSERY
IN LAWRENCEVILLE GA. I HAD HER GROWING IN A SELF CONTAINED
PENJING DRAGON SYSTEM UNTIL A FEW WEEKS AGO.

IMG_9908.JPG (33785 bytes)

ONE OF THE ITEMS DENISE REQUESTED AS PART OF THE WALKWAY WAS
A SMALL POND WITH WATER FLOW SO IT WOULD SOUND LIKE A WATER FALL
YEA, I KNOW, REDUNDANT. WATER FLOW WATER FALL. BUT THERE IS A DIFFERENCE
THREE DAYS AND I DID IT ALL.. OF COURSE.. DENISE ASSISTED!
I USED CEMENT BLOCK, CEMENT, GOODYEAR RUBBER LINER [THE BEST PERIOD]
WITH STRAIGHT 1x MATERIAL FOR COVERING THE BLACK WITH 1X2 FOR EDGES.
I WANTED IT TO LOOK AGED. SO AFTER STAINING I MACHINE SANDED AREAS
THE WATER IS DRIVEN BY A HAMMER HEAD PUMP I HAD LEFT OVER
FROM MY SALT WATER DAYS. IT TURNS OVER 5000 GALLONS AN HOUR
THE 2 INCH FLEX LINE GOES THROUGH SIDE OF HOUSE INTO THE PUMP
THE 2 INCH RETURN GOES THROUGH THE STONE WALL
BY WAY OF 2INCH PVC. THE TRICK TO HIDE THE WHITE COLOR
IS TO SPRAY THAT INSULATION FOAM FROM THE DEPOT.
AFTER ABOUT 6 MOS, IT TURNS ORANGE AND BROWN
LOOKS LIKE STONE
THEN I WRAPPED SOME IVY AROUND IT AND IT WILL GROW LIKE CRAZY
REMOVING NITRATES FROM THE POND

IMG_0512.JPG (44182 bytes)

HERE YOU SEE THE GOLD FISH
DO NOT EVER PLACE KOI IN A POND THAT IS SHADED EVERY DAY
BUT I HAVE SOME MIX KOI/GOLD FISH THAT ARE STUNNING
WHITE WITH GOLD. SOME HAVE RED  PATCH ON HEADS/ SOME ARE ALL GOLD

BTW
THE STEPS ARE LOCATED CONVENIENTLY AT THE LANDING

IMG_7469.JPG (243626 bytes)

THIS IS A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF WATER FLOW
IT SOUNDS AWESOME. LIKE WE HAVE A RAPID OFF TO THE
RIGHT WHEN COMING UP THE WALK WAYS

THE PUMP IS RATED 5000 GALLONS
TAKE OFF 4 FOOT HEAD PRESSURE
[THE FLOOR IN BASEMENT IS 4 FOOT  LOWER THAN POND]
AND THE PULL RESISTANCE OF MY SELF MADE PERMANENT FILTER
AND WE ARE TURING 3800 GALLONS PER HOUR
91000 GALLONS PER DAY

COST? ABOUT 35.00 PER MONTH

IMG_9910.JPG (45142 bytes)

I THEN ADDED TWO 2 X 12 BEAMS EXTENDING TO THE LEFT ABOVE
I USED CONCRETE AND SOME OF THE PRIZED LEFT OVER DRIVEWAY CONCRETE
AND MADE A PLATFORM FOR THIS FEMALE FOO DOG

NOTE: I JUST PAINTED HER. SHE SAT FOR MANY YEARS WITH NO COLOR
SHE WAS A GIFT FROM ELIJA --

IMG_0515.JPG (52216 bytes)

PRETTY MUCH SEVERELY DAMAGED
THE FOO DOG REQUIRED LOTS OF INNOVATIVE REPAIRS
BUT SHE HAS WITHSTOOD ALL FOR 5 YEARS AND NOW IS PAINTED

NOTE
THAT BONSAI YOU SEE IS SIMPLY AWESOME
ANOTHER ONE OF AGE LIKE 40 YEARS!

IMG_0516.JPG (59679 bytes)

HERE IS ANOTHER SHOT
SHE IS STRESSED RIGHT NOW
I JUST COMPLETED SOME BARK REMOVAL
WITH SULFUR AND LIME TREATMENT
SHE REACTED PRETTY HARSHLY BY DROPPING FOLIAGE
YOU CANNOT SEE IT BUT I CAN

NOTE
SEE MOSS AROUND ROOTS
MOVE EYES TO  RIGHT ABOUT THREE LEAF WORTH
[LEAF BEING BRIGHT GREEN TIPS]
SEE THAT AREA THAT IS "CUPPED" IN?
A ROUND SWIRLING LOOK?
THAT USED TO BE AN AREA FILLED WITH BRIGHT GREEN EDGED "LEAVES"

IN ANY CASE, THE TREE IS MAKING NEW "VEINS" OR CONNECTIONS

IMG_0517.JPG (59926 bytes)

NOW, DENISE INVESTED IN THIS JAPANESE MAPLE FOR MY BIRTHDAY IN 1998.
IT WAS ALREADY 25 YEARS OF AGE. I IMMEDIATELY TRIMMED AND WIRE HER
I REMOVED A THREE INCH BY THE HEIGHT SECTION OF BARK
AND, OVER TIME, I TRAINED HER TO GROW HER BRANCHES AND LEAVES
ON ONE SIDE ONLY. AS IF FOR CENTURIES ALL LIGHT WAS ON ONE SIDE
TODAY SHE IS SIMPLY AN INCREDIBLE SIGHT. THE BARK CLOSED TO ONLY
1/4 INCH. THE BACK SIDE, WHICH IS THE FRONT SIDE, HAS GROWN INTO
EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED.

U

IMG_0518.JPG (51644 bytes)

THIS MAPLE IS IN PERFECT HEALTH. LOOK AT THE TRUNK AND BRACH SYSTEM

IMG_0519.JPG (60425 bytes)

THIS IS THE GROWTH SIDE
LEAVES ARE 25% THE SIZE THAT THEY WOULD BE HAD
WE NOT SET UPON THE IDEA OF BONSAI

30 FOOT SQUARE DECKING STEPS

THE NEW STEP SYSTEM
SINCE WE PURCHASED THIS HOME WE HAVE HAD PROBLEMS ACCESSING
THE FROM YARDS FROM THE FRONT DOOR. THERE IS A 30 FOOT DROP OFF
SO WE WOULD HAVE TO WALK DOWN THE DRIVE, CUT UNDER THE PAPER BARKS
TURN LEFT AND GO AROUND THE JUNIPER TO ACCESS THE RIGHT SIDE OF OUR HOME.
I TRIED CONCRETE SQUARES, I TRIED ALL SIMPLE WAYS UNTIL FINALLY A MONTH AGO I DECIDED
TO PERMANENTLY FIX THE PROBLEM, ESPECIALLY SINCE WE ALL HAVE SLIPPED, FELL AND/OR INJURED OURSELVES.

I WOULD DESIGN AND BUILD A 30 FOOT SYSTEM OF WOOD DECKING WITH
TWO SECTIONS OF STAIRS. I WOULD ALSO PERFORM THE "MAGIC" LANDSCAPING
SYSTEM THAT LOOKS LIKE IT WAS THERE FOREVER.

IMG_0531.JPG (38428 bytes)

THIS IS THE ENTRY POINT TO MY STAIR SYSTEM
COMING FROM THE WALK WAY STEP DOWN MAKE A LEFT

IMG_9911.JPG (42888 bytes)

YOU THEN PASS MRS. MOLDED FIBERGLASS FOO

IMG_9912.JPG (40626 bytes)

HOW ABOUT THE PAINTING?

IMG_9913.JPG (34510 bytes)

NOTE THAT THIS SYSTEM PASSES THE POND

IMG_9844.JPG (41512 bytes)

YUP THERE IS MORE CONCRETE

IMG_9848.JPG (45916 bytes)

NOTE THE RAILINGS

IMG_9839.JPG (36469 bytes)

IMG_2671.JPG (276188 bytes)

NICE SHOT OF LAYOUT
THIS WAS COMPLETED OVER THREE DAYS
INCLUDING LANDSCAPING SEVERAL WEEKS AGO

IMG_2672.JPG (232001 bytes)

THIS WALK-WAY WAS IMPORTANT
WE NOW HAVE ACCESS

IMG_2673.JPG (253848 bytes)

MRS FOO

IMG_0522.JPG (48943 bytes)

YOU CAN SEE THE 4 X 4 FOOT SQUARES
THE FIRST TWO ARE OFFSET
NOTE THE 4X4 TOTEM OF CHIMES

IMG_0520.JPG (43917 bytes)

THE LANDSCAPING WAS PERFECT. IT HAS BEEN SAY 6-7 WEEKS.
I USED ELEPHANT LEAVES THAT HAVE SHOT UP LIKE CRAZY TWO FOOT LEAVES

IMG_0536.JPG (50568 bytes)

YOU CAN SEE THAT THE ACTUAL HEIGHT FROM TOP SQUARE TO RIGHT PROPERTY CORNER
IS MORE LIKE 40 FEET DOWN

IMG_9834.JPG (49375 bytes)

THE DECK WALKWAY BLENDS PERFECTLY WITH THE JUNIPER
YOU CAN SEE I CHOSE A LIGHT NATURAL FINISH
WHICH IS OPPOSITE FROM THE EXISTING WALK WAY

IMG_9838.JPG (48822 bytes)

AS THE VARIOUS BUSHES AND OTHER STRICTLY LANDSCAPE ADDITIONS
GROW, THIS NEW ADDITION WILL BE PHENOMENAL

IMG_9842.JPG (51746 bytes)

YOU CAB SEE THE BASIC DETAILS IN THIS SHOT
ALSO SOME MORE OF THAT DRIVE WAY CONCRETE LOL

IMG_7456.JPG (59636 bytes)

NOTICE THAT WE ELIMINATED 80% OF THE GRASS

A TRIP TO THE SIDE AND BACK PONDS

IMG_0534.JPG (48213 bytes)

THE PAPER BIRCH TREES ARE LARGE BONSAI
THE DOUBLE TRUNKS ARE MASSIVE AND PAPERED PERFECTLY
YET I TRIM THEN SPRING AND AGAIN IN A FEW WEEKS
THEY ARE FLAT TOPPED AND CIRCULAR LIKE SMASHED CANS
WITH THE BUILDING OF THE WALK WAY STEP SYSTEM
I HAVE BEEN DELAYED AS TO THE PAPER BARKS

NOW, THOSE CLEVELAND PEARS?
WE PLANTED 6 OF THEM
AND
WE ARE SO DOG-ON HAPPY
THESE TREES SHOT UP AND DID THERE JOB
SCREENING OUR NEIGHBORS HOME ACROSS THE WAY
WHEN ON OUR PROPERTY YOU FEEL THE SECLUSION

IMG_7448.JPG (292887 bytes)

THOSE RED TIPS THE BUSHES BETWEEN THE PAPER BARKS?
I USED THEM FOR THE STEP DECKING

IMG_9823.JPG (43607 bytes)

THOSE PAPER BARKS WHEN TRIMMED ARE STILL 18 FEET HIGH
