IMG_6277.JPG (52972 bytes)

ABSOLUTELY AWESOME

IMG_6280.JPG (55820 bytes)

ONE OF THE BEST RESTORATIONS
CONSIDERING THE LEATHER WAS SO DRY "ROT" & "MOLD"
EVEN AFTER 30 HOURS OF OILING AND WORKING
IT WOULD NOT TAKE A STITCH

IMG_6281.JPG (52549 bytes)

USED LEATHER LINERS
CEMENTS AND GLUE
OVER STITCHING

[STITCHING WERE EVER THERE WAS SOLID LEATHER]
DYES OILS WAXES
[DUE TO ORIGINAL DRY ROT HOLES]

IMG_6233.JPG (39174 bytes)

ANOTHER FACTOR WAS THE LATE PURCHASE OF TRUE

"NEATSFOOT" OIL
[39.00 QUART]

NOT THE STUFF ON EBAY BUT THE REAL DEAL

IMG_6232.JPG (31689 bytes)

I DISASSEMBLED SEVERAL SECTIONS
SOAKED THEM
THEN RE-STITCHED THROUGH SAME HOLES

IMG_6234.JPG (28381 bytes)

FINISH IS EXCELLENT

IMG_6238.JPG (28102 bytes)

SIDE POCKET ACCORDION STRIPS LOOK AS IF THEY ARE ORIGINAL
YOU CAN NOW OPEN AND CLOSE THE POCKETS

IMG_6248.JPG (34192 bytes)

REPLACE THE KANJI PRINT WOOD STICKS

IMG_6264.JPG (42569 bytes)

THERE WERE FOUR STAMPS

IMG_6249.JPG (29707 bytes)

MY PATRON HAD ONE OF THE COVER FLAPS
I WAS ABLE TO TREAT IT THEN TO STITCH IT BACK IN
THE PROBLEM IT WAS THE ORIGINAL HOLES WERE AND ARE DRY ROTTED
SO, I OVERSTITCHED IT IN A WAY THAT LOOKS LIKE IT WAS
REPAIRED IN THE FIELD VS A RESTORATION

IMG_6239.JPG (30060 bytes)

THE STRAPS TURNED OUT GREAT

HERE YOU CAN SEE THE CRACKS IN THE BACK FLAP
NOT ONLY WAS IT CRACKED, IT AND THE "FLAP" TONGUE
WERE  DRY ROTTED BEYOND HELP

THE FLAP WAS REPAIRED USING A SOFT LEATHER LINER
THE TONGUE BROKE INTO 4 PIECES WHEN STITCHING
SO I MADE A NEW ONE

IMG_6240.JPG (41983 bytes)

THIS PICTURE OF A JAPANESE SOLDIER WAS PRETTY COOL
I REMOVED IT AND RESTORED THE LEATHER
I THEN RE-PLACED & RE-APPLIED GLUE & USED TACKS TO HOLD UNTIL IT SETS

IMG_6242.JPG (34589 bytes)

THIS IS NEW
THE ORIGINAL FRONT COVER TONGUE HOLD DOWN
WAS RIVETED INTO THE FRONT SECTION
IT WAS TOTALLY DRY ROTTED
TO THE POINT NO WORK COULD MAKE IT RIGHT
ATTEMPTING TO REMOVE THE TWO RIVETS WOULD TEAR
THE FRONT LEATHER INTO UN-REPAIRABLE LEVELS

IMG_6243.JPG (26749 bytes)

IT WAS EASY TO REMOVE THE PIECES OF THE ORIGINAL
LEAVING ENOUGH UNDER THE RIVETS INSIDE SO THEY WOULD NOT COME LOOSE
AND BREAK THE AREA AROUND THEM

I USED UV CEMENT WITH A UV LIGHT FOR DIAMOND CHECKING
WAS ABLE TO LEAVE OVER NIGHT IN THE POCKET
[YEA.. PRETTY COOL THINKING]

IMG_6254.JPG (36065 bytes)

AS YOU CAN SEE, IT WORKED PERFECTLY

IMG_6244.JPG (35029 bytes)

BACK POCKET
NOTE THE SOFT LEATHER INSERT FOR THE FLAP LOOKS
LIKE IT BELONGS

IMG_6246.JPG (36422 bytes)

THE BACK FLAP WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT  TO REPLACE
BUT IT GOT DONE

IMG_6258.JPG (67918 bytes)

WILL HOLD MAPS
POCKETS WORK
TONGUES LOCK DOWN
JAPANESE KANJI PENS CAN BE REMOVED

SOME CARE MUST BE TAKEN
BUT SHE IS GREAT FOR OPEN DISPLAY

IMG_6262.JPG (69158 bytes)

ALL FOUR PEN HOLDERS ARE GREAT
3 ARE NEAR PERFECT
CARE MUST BE TAKEN USING THE RIGHT KANJI PEN  ABOVE
[THE LEFT SIDE FRONT PEN]

 IMG_6264.JPG (42569 bytes)

EACH ONE WOULD BE DIFFERENT
FROM NAME OF OFFICER
TO APPROVAL OR DENIAL
WHAT EVER
THE DEPTH OF THE POCKETS LIMIT THE SIZE OF THE ITEM
PENS PENCILS AND KANJI "PENS" CAN BE UTILIZED

NOTE: U CAN TELL IT WAS ME DOING WORK
NEVER USE GLOVES THOSE NATURAL DYES JUST WILL NOT COME OFF! .

IMG_6267.JPG (75563 bytes)

I DID NOT MAKE A NEW SIDE COVER FLAP FOR THE RIGHT [SIDE LOOKING TO FRONT]
THE REASON IS THAT THE IDEA WAS TO RESTORE AS CLOSE TO ORIGINAL
USE OF EXTENSIVE LEATHER WORKS IN ACCORDION SIDES FLAPS INTERIOR WERE FINE

SEEING THAT IT ISNOW HARD TO SAY WHAT WAS "REPLACED OR ADDED"
THE TONGUE ON BACK WAS A NECESSITY
LEAVING THE FLAP MISSING SIMPLY ADDS TO ITS VALUE
[AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED}

IMG_6270.JPG (63565 bytes)

CASE BACK

IMG_2604.JPG (150854 bytes)IMG_3210.JPG (180124 bytes)IMG_2605.JPG (147233 bytes)

THE ACCORDIAN LEATHER INSERTS REQUIRE STITCHING AND WHERE THE DRY ROT WAS WE CAN SEE IN THE TEARS I WILL TAKE NON-TANNED SOFT LEATHER
AND CUT TO FIT SIDE ACCORDIANS AND STITCH IT FROM THE SIDES ONE SIDE DONE TUE 10 JULY   HERE WE HAVE MORE LEATHER REQUIRING A SOFT LEATHER BACKING

IMG_2607.JPG (132579 bytes)IMG_3211.JPG (120008 bytes)IMG_3216.JPG (132916 bytes)

IMG_2614.JPG (145181 bytes)IMG_3228.JPG (179146 bytes)IMG_2628.JPG (127474 bytes)

IMG_2629.JPG (141487 bytes)IMG_3211.JPG (120008 bytes)IMG_2617.JPG (128685 bytes)

ANOTHER SHOT WOW MY REPAIR!  TUE 10 JULY
THIS IS WHERE THE FRONT FLAP RETAINER WAS STITCHED
NOTICE THE JAPANESE STAR STITCHING
THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN A GOLD STAR ON THE FRONT SIDE

I JUST AQUIRED ONE

IMG_2618.JPG (158121 bytes)IMG_2623.JPG (127596 bytes)IMG_2624.JPG (171115 bytes)

IMG_2625.JPG (171032 bytes)IMG_2626.JPG (147233 bytes)

EVEN THE JAPANES STITCHING IS UNIQUE
