After going thru the timing process In all 6 positions I noticed I kept getting an irregular beat pattern, At first I thought the movement was gummed up from every day use. Which, it is by the way. But that can fixed with just a service to the movement itself. Which if its an every day worn watch its time to get the watch serviced and protect your investment. That’s the first thing,
Due to the watch beat jumping around and getting irregular beats I decided to go in for a closer look. I noticed the hairspring has 2 coils that have moved out from each other, I am almost certain that this is the reason why your time piece is running this way. We will never be able to get this watch timed or running correctly with this hairspring in this condition. It will only get worse.
I am not sure of this is the original balance or not? Could be from age, could also be from residue getting gummed up along the coils and it caused a few of them to stick and from the weight shifting it caused 2 of them to cross over each other.
When you first reached out to me about the warranty work , though the warranty had lapsed , with it just being a simple timing correction I was happy to just take it in and correct the timing for you.
However now we are looking at a completely different animal now. This is not a simple timing correction,
1. The watch needs to be serviced. At that time the watch movement would get completely taken apart and ran thru a 3 stage cleaning process. All the keyless work, jewels, wheels, mainspring, pinion would get lubricated. The hairspring would also get removed -which this is a must at this point because of the way it sits right now, the watch is running- how long it will continue to run is uncertain, the accuracy of this watch right now just poor.
I believe you stated the watch was gaining 30 seconds a day? My first timing of the watch it was gaining nearly 5 seconds every minute. Now that can be adjusted, but my point is this. We an adjust and adjust- the hairspring is must be symmetrical or it will continue to run very poor – its the heart of the watch.
I have spent 8 hrs diagnosing and assessing this watch for you. I really tried to make up for the lost time as the last 2 months have just well to say the least very busy. Add my entire house getting sick , its just not what I was hoping for.
I have not even looked your ticket up from when you purchased this watch. Can you tell me more about this purchase. Was it a restored watch that Rock completed for you? I noticed a few things that could use some attention. I want sure if Rock just had the watch and you bought it, or if you were specific on how you wanted the watch.
I noticed the bracelet was in pretty rough shape(Peeling). I decided to look in some of the old stock that I had and found several bracelets like the one you have on there now, If you just like that bracelet I could refinish that one for you at time of Service. I would be more than willing to offer you another bracelet free of charge just for the long wait that you had to endure.
Or I could refinish the one you have now,
So right now you have 2 options. I can put the watch back together , its running, She can wear it till it stops running, which it will do at some point. It may even start to do it periodically then start back. Once it stops you can send it back in and we can asses it then and address it.
Or you can have the watch serviced- 190.00
I can try to get the hairspring back into shape- if I cannot get the hairspring back into considerable condition, we will have to start looking for a replacement hairspring- 90.00-150.00
This isn’t a part I can just order. I will have to find it- could be 7 days could be a couple of months-
Or if you don’t want the watch serviced but only want me to address the balance I can do that as well. Though I see it foolish to not invest in the service of this timepiece, But it you just want me to address the balance I can. I already did some research tonight , There are 2 balance completes for this movement for sale. Both of them are for under 60 dollars. I will need to contact sellers though and ask them a few questions. But once those 2 sell I could not tell you when another one would come available.
Just decide what you would like for me to do, You only have to pay half up front and the rest at time of completion. I will put yours high priority, meaning I will start on it asap. If I have to buy the part I would need to get that in full and then you would just pay balance of labor to install.
I will do everything in power to go above and beyond for you. I do realize that the intake of this watch was not really handled correctly. Though I know it has nothing to do with the mechanics of the watch itself. I just handled the assessment and the timelines poorly. Don’t get me wrong, we have some guys that have had there watches with me for over 8 months. But they knew that going into it. You however did not, I dropped the ball in telling you it may be a few months. So that I apologize for.
I am getting more comfortable now , so things are starting to run a lot better .
