JUST BLILL FOR THE REST OF THE WORK, AND PLACE THE WHEEL ON OUR LIST. THEN PATRON CAN SHIP BACK. THE WATCH OPERATES FINE BUT THAT STOPPING HAS TO BE FIXED. IT WILL TAKE 4 TO 6 MONTHS TO FIND THE PART AND A CROWN. WE WOULD MAKE ONE BUT CANNOT FIND A CROWN WITH THE EXACT PARTICULARS, DIAL IS STUNNING. In 1929,Captain Philip Van Horn Weems of the U.S. Navy (1889-1979), designed a system for navigation along with a Second Setting Watch watch that used a rotating exterior bezel or center dial with minutes/seconds chapter ring to synchronise the watch to the second using the radio time signal without adjusting the hands, This design incorporated a second “locking” crown that allowed the user to lock down the rotating bezel at the precise timing on the bezel.

Captain Philip Van Horn Weems designed the “Weems System of Navigation” in 1927 – the year Lindbergh crossed the Atlantic. His “system” employed a modified sextant taking two “shots” of the sun, allied to an accurate time reading from his “Second Setting Watch”, followed by making reference to the tables in the Line of Positions book. (The Line of Position book provided extensive charts with precalculated positions; allowing a pilot to look up the positions quickly and easily, instead of performing the complicated calculations himself.)

Unless your watch had a hacking seconds-hand, [THE A II PILOTS WWII WATCH W/HACK WOULD BE INTRODUCED TEN YEARS LATER] along with precise timekeeping and you’ve set it correctly in the first place, with the help of a radio signal, you can be out by a few seconds at any given time. And a few seconds at air speeds and over great distances can prove dangerous, if not fatal.

Weems system along with his invention of the Second Setting Watch enabled pilots and navigators to read truly accurate time directly from the watch face during an era when chronometric precision was cotly and rare.

In 1929, in partnership with Longines, Weems registered a patent for this design. Longines produced the original “WEEMS” with locking crown 2 position [same size as U.S. GOV MIL WWII A-II PILOTS WATCH].and added the larger model with locking crown at 4 position,

HOURS ANGLE WATCH
MODERN VERSION

A note of interest, Charles A. Lindbergh, who was a pupil of Weems, used the concept as an additional feature in his Hour Angle Watch. This patent was registered in 1935.

SHE RAN, BUT BUTTONS TO CONTROL START STOP [TOP]
RESET TO 12 [BOTTOM]

THOUGH THE WATCH RAN FINE, AND CENTER SECONDS WORKED, AND THE RESET WORKED, ..THE START-STOP FUNCTION CONTROLLED BY THE TOP PUSHER WAS NOT WORKING. I OVERHAULED THE MOVEMENT AND BECAUSE THESE ARE VALJOUX BASED, I HAD THE NEW PARTS TO REPAIR THE START/STOP MECHANISMS.

NOTE THE PUSHER CAPS. THEY ARE REPLACEMENTS. THEY DID NOT COME WITH THIS CASE. IT IS DIFFICULT TO GET NEW ONES. PERIOD. JULESBOREL NOR OTTO FREI DID NOT HAVE THEM.. YOU CAN SEE THEY DO NOT COVER THE PUSHERS.

NOW, IF YOU DID NOT READ THIS, THEY WOULD BE FINE..

THEY WORK NOW. THE START AND STOP FEELS TIGHT, BUT ALL IS WELL.

CHRONOGRAPH A RETOUR GEISMAR

IMG_2980.JPG (132835 bytes)

CHRONOGRAPH A RETOUR GEISMAR
With Breitling 639 Base

This Bomber stopwatch mechanism was considered specialized equipment utilized by many European Airforce
in the 1920’s and ’30s. Producers included **Breitling, Minerva, Leonidas, Universal, Zenith, and **Geismar
The French Lip company created a different movement then those above that had a similar look and use.

**GEISER UTILIZED A BREITLING CHRONOGRAPHS AS THEIR BASE MOVEMENTS
BOTH

C. 638 AND C. 639

Matte steel, triple body with case and double backs, 4 lugs, rotating bi-directional revolving notched bezel with fixed inner triangle/arrow index
marker for target timing, hold-button to interrupt timing, co-axial start / stop and reset button in the winding crown, reverse timing,
snap-on inner outer case back, heavy wire lugs 1/5th second divisions for30 seconds per revolution and 5-second Arabic markers ,frosted
gilt, straight-line lift escapement, monometallic balance, flat balance spring selfcompensating.

WHAT IS THIS AWESOME LEATHER STRAP FOR?
BELOW YOU WILL NOTICE LUGS, THAT IS FOUR TO BE PRECISE.
THE WAY YOU USED THIS TIMING DEVICE WAS TO PLACE IT ON YOUR THIGH
THAT IS, A PILOT OR BOMBARDIER WOULD MOUNT THE DEVICE
ON THEIR LEG USING THE LEATHER STRAP ABOVE

THE GULLIES ON THE BEZEL WERE PLACED THIS WAY TO MAKE TURING THE BEZEL–
WHICH TURNED THE INNER POINTER– SUPER EASY AND FAST.
WHEN IT IS MOUNTED ON YOUR THIGH YOU CAN USE ONE HAND TO RAPIDLY
PUT THIS BABY THROUGH HER PACES. START STOP, REVERSE, CHANGE

THE DIRECTION OF THE ARROW AND READ IT. AFTER 10 TO 15 TIMES,
YOU CAN MASTER TIME ITSELF

THE BREITLING 638 IS THE BASE. WHICH MEANS THE ADDED FUNCTIONS, SUCH AS
REVERSE OPERATION WAS ADDED BY THE COMPANY PRODUCING THESE BEAUTIES

IMG_2965.JPG (116662 bytes)

NOTE OUTSIDE COVER HAS
“B”
“638”

BREITLING 638 CHRONO MOVEMENT

Though the appearance of the flyback function was made when the Breitling company
made the first watch in 1923, it used a separate chronograph button to stop and reset

rather than these functions being controlled by the winding-crown.

However the patent of the flyback chronograph belongs to Longines with its first flyback
chronograph dating back to 1936. In fact, the US used a Longines dual register Chrono
with button in crown for the A-7 Pilots watch. go hereTimeFraud Search A-7).

In 1934 the Breitling again hit the mark. They began producing chronographs with a
second chronograph button with the function of returning the seconds hand to zero.
Thus it became possible to measure short intervals of time using the add function.

Yet, the fact is. it was discovered that chronographs equipped watches meant for pilots that had
the flyback function and single button, like the A-7 of the 1930’s, were much
easier and efficient from the point of view of time saving and ease of use if these
pilots watches would instantly start, stop and/or restart with one push of one button not three!

As a “Bomb Timer” or “Chronograph with Return” it runs in normal positions [clock wise] then, with a simple pressing of the crown,
the timer runs in reverse. Thus user can reverse timing– as in running backwards . This model seems to date FROM 1935 to
1940 models. In fine condition, this unusual awesome time piece is an oversized, chromium-plated, 30-second timer/chrono with memory index.

Chronograph “flyback” or “flyback”.
The Chronograph with flyback function has a special feature compared
to a conventional chronograph. The flyback, allows one to reset current
timing and to revive the timer instantly by pressing and quickly releasing the reset button.
This beauty not only does all above but will reverse timing

This flyback chronograph is a complication watch which uses a single push
button for stopping, resetting and restarting or reversing the chronograph function of the watch.

The flyback function has also is titled
Retour-en-vol
(French: retour – to return; en – on; vol – flight)

ABOVE ROCK MIXED LACQUER AND WHITE LUME
HE WILL ADD A PAINT MIX HE DOES NOT OFFER THE RECIPE TO
LACQUER WILL NOT MIX WITH PAINT. WATER OR OIL WOULD
SEPARATE

IMG_7657.JPG (187608 bytes)

HERE IS MODEL PAINT. ROCK WILL BURN THIS FOR A MIXTURE

IMG_7661.JPG (122963 bytes)

HERE WHITE LUME LACQUER AND THE TAN POWDER IS MIXED

IMG_7662.JPG (166119 bytes)

WALLA
ROCK APPLIES THE LUME
AND MAKES IT LOOK LIKE IT WAS 80 YEARS AGO
YET WITH AN AGED LOOK THAT WILL

INCREASE OVER TWO YEARS INTO
WHAT IT LOOKED LIKE AFTER 80 YEARS

IMG_7663.JPG (141084 bytes)

HERE WE TEST AGAIN TO INSURE HANDS WILL PASS EACH OTHER
AND THAT WEIGHT IS NOT A CONCERN ON FLY BACK

IMG_7664.JPG (156553 bytes)

TOTALLY AWESOME

NOTE HANDS ALIGN PERFECTLY EVERY TIME

BRING IN THE LIGHT

IMG_7669.JPG (119111 bytes)

OK… 12 MOVEMENT PARTS EITHER HAND MADE OF SCAVENGED
YET A CRYSTAL SHOULD BE AVAILABLE? FORGETABOUTID
YOU HAVE TO USE A PERIOD CRYSTAL!
CELLULOID WAS THE CRYSTAL OF THE DAY
THEY GET YELLOW OVER TIME
BUT ROCK HAS ANOTHER SECRET RECIPE TO RESTORING CELLULOID
YES, SOME BUFF IT RAW TO REMOVE THE DEEP YELLOW
THAT OCCURS AT THE TOP LAYERS
INTERACTION OF TIME PLUS UV RADIATION

IMG_7670.JPG (167946 bytes)

HERE IS A MIXTURE THAT TURNS THE CRYSTAL INTO A RUBBERY CRYSTAL
CARE MUST BE TAKEN TO FIT IT BEFORE IT DRIES
AT THE CONCLUSION THE CRYSTAL HAS SOME YELLOW WHICH WE WANT
BUT IS AS STRONG AND PLIABLE AS IT WAS 80 YEARS AGO

IMG_7671.JPG (145291 bytes)

BAM! FITS PERFECT
FINISH S EXCELLENT
LOOKS 100 YEARS OLD
PERFORMS BETTER THAN MODERN ACRYLIC

IMG_7681.JPG (132792 bytes)

NOTE. UPON CLOSE EXAMINATION
HANDS HAVE RUST
DIAL LOOKS AGED LIKE IT SHOULD THROUGH CRYSTAL
ILLUMINATION DOTS HAVE BEEN PRESSED TO OFFER AN AGED LOOK
CASE HAS BEEN RESTORED, YET EDGES CORNERS WERE LEFT AS WAS
OFFERING THE LOOK OF AN OFFICERS
600.00 [ IN 1930/1940 DOLLARS ]
JAPANESE MILITARY RATTRAPANTE
THAT WAS WELL CARED FOR YET USED IN THE SERVICE OF THE MILITARY

IMG_7674.JPG (155721 bytes)

READY FOR ACTION
AGAIN

*****************************************************

IMG_7689.JPG (113899 bytes)

WOW
….IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT
THE CASE FINISH WAS A MESS
TO RESTORE WITHOUT CAUSING A LOSS OF LAYERS
ESPECIALLY THE
ANCHOR KANJI AND ARABIC NUMERALS
WAS A DELICATE JOB

IMG_7679.JPG (143928 bytes)

AGAIN, WIDE AREA OF INNER HINGED
MOISTURE/DUST COVER HAS HIGH POLISH
BUT
NOTE THE EDGES OF MAIN CASE
NOTE THE BOW INNER SIDES
NOTE THE EDGES OF THE OUTER CASE

LEAVING SOME OF THE WEAR AND TEAR IS MOST IMPORTANT

IMG_7676.JPG (145606 bytes)

!!!!!!YET THE CASE IS RESTORED!!!!!!!!

IMG_7652.JPG (142351 bytes)

INNER DUST/MOISTURE HINGED BACK
IS FACTORY SWISS FINISHED

IMG_7678.JPG (133036 bytes)

WANT ONE? BE PREPARED TO PAY A HEFTY PRICE

IMG_7677.JPG (126889 bytes)

THE AREAS LEFT WITH WEAR ARE PERFECT BECAUSE THEY WOULD BE THERE
NO MATTER HOW WELL KEPT AND PROTECTED
IF IT WAS AN ITEM THAT PARTICIPATED IN WAR FARE!
AND
THIS TIME PIECE DID SEE ACTION

IMG_7685.JPG (141158 bytes)

AGAIN
NOTE HANDS WORKING

IMG_7686.JPG (132474 bytes)

BUTTON LEFT OF CROWN SENDS THE LOWER
MAIN HAND TO PERFECT POSITION

IMG_7650.JPG (199861 bytes)

OVERHAULED

2 TWO ADJUSTMENTS
7 JEWELS
M.T. STAUFFER
SWISS

IMG_7692.JPG (144537 bytes)

ILLUMINATION IS LIKE IT WAS
I DID NOT NOTICE ID SUBSIDIARY HAND HAD ILLUMINATION
